Australian Dental Council in partnership with Pearson VUE to deliver overseas practitioners exam

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, April 1, 2016 – The Australian Dental Council (ADC) has entered into a global partnership with computer-based testing company Pearson VUE to deliver examinations for overseas-trained dentists seeking to practice in Australia.

The ADC pathway consists of three steps: an initial assessment of documents, a written examination and a practical examination. The ADC written examination is designed to test knowledge of the science and practice of dentistry and to assess the clinical judgement and reasoning skills of overseas-trained dental practitioners.

Pearson VUE has been engaged to support the delivery of the ADC written examination, commencing March 2016. The written examination is held twice a year, over two full consecutive days, and consists of four two-hour examination papers.

Lyn LeBlanc, chief executive officer of the Australian Dental Council, said: “We selected Pearson VUE as they are a world leader in delivering computer-based testing. We wanted to increase efficiency when delivering our examinations and to benefit from the secure testing environments that Pearson VUE offers in multiple countries. Engaging Pearson VUE also provides our candidates with more options for booking and paying for their examinations.”

Bob Whelan, managing director of Pearson VUE, said: “I am delighted that this new partnership will improve the lives and careers of dental practitioners around the world who want to make the move to Australia.”
